The church was originally built in the 13th Century out of carstone. It underwent an extensive restoration in the 1870s which inevitably led to many of its medieval features being removed. All the stained glass dates from the late 19th / early 20th centuries with the majority being made by Ian Pace (1846 – 1928) a former pupil of Clayton & Bell..

This c1903 window, designed by Heaton Butler & Bayne, was made in memory of Benjamin and Marian Mitchell in colours very typical of the period. It is the only window in the church not designed by Ian Pace.

Ian Pace designed this window ,celebrating 60 years of Queen Victoria’s reign, c1897. Above the Virgin Mary a banner declares “My soul doth magnify the lord” whilst her companion declares “Blessed are thou amongst women”.
Ian Pace designed this window c 1904 in memory of George and Charles Wood . It shows Christ being presented in the Temple.
